چکیده

Residential and commercial buildings constitute one of the largest energy consumption sectors in industrialized countries. This paper introduces a flexible commissioning system for maximizing energy usage efficiency in large and complex buildings. The system exploits (i) a data management scheme that uses distributed wireless sensors networks for environmental monitoring, (ii) a data analysis framework and (iii) a monitoring interface. The system focuses on energy saving models to efficiently acquire and process sensor network data, thus reducing energy consumption and costs through the whole process. Novel protocol mechanisms are included in the implementation of the network to reduce its energy expenditure while maintaining a realiable communication. Special attention is placed in developing the performance monitoring interface, specifically designed for increasing personal energy consciousness of end-users. The overall system has been implemented at the Politecnico di Torino main site.

Modeling and Performance Evaluation of Energy Consumption in S-MAC Protocol Using Generalized Stochastic Petri Nets

One of the features of wireless sensor networks is that the nodes in this network have limited power sources. Therefore, assessment of energy consumption in these networks is very important. What has been common practice has been the use of traditional simulators to evaluate the energy consumption of the nodes in these networks. Simulators often have problems such as fluctuating output values i...

Estimation of Energy Expenditure Using a Patch-Type Sensor Module with an Incremental Radial Basis Function Neural Network

Conventionally, indirect calorimetry has been used to estimate oxygen consumption in an effort to accurately measure human body energy expenditure. However, calorimetry requires the subject to wear a mask that is neither convenient nor comfortable. The purpose of our study is to develop a patch-type sensor module with an embedded incremental radial basis function neural network (RBFNN) for esti...
